Q & A with Logan Donathan with State Chemical

Q) Logan, could you please give us a little background information on State Chemical as well as its relationship with Sourcing Office?

Sourcing Office awarded the chemical, waste water treatment, and water treatment elements of the Janitorial, Sanitation & Safety Supplies Program to State Chemical as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder to an RFP that was published in 2010.  Sourcing Office offers an already procured, competitively bid contract with State Chemical to its affiliate members.

State Chemical has been family owned since 1911, is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio and has a manufacturing facility just outside of Columbus, Ohio.  The company produces more than 95% of the products that it sells.  We have over 400 employees throughout the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico to service our customers.

State offers a full line of industrial and institutional chemical products.  We are ISO 9001 Certified for quality assurance and ISO 14001 Certified for environmental responsibility. State deploys its chemicals through a dilution or chemical proportioning system.  Rather than shipping bulky, ready-to-use chemicals, State provides concentrated chemicals that are diluted on-site into recycled and reusable plastic containers using cold water.  This approach eliminates shipping costs while reducing packaging waste and physical storage space requirements.

State also provides highly effective water treatment chemicals for coolers and boiling towers as well as waste water treatment chemicals for waste treatment facilities.  Utilization of these chemicals comes complete with participant employee training and ongoing State servicing.

Q) Logan, what is your background and what is your role with State Chemical?

I have specialized in water treatment for boiling towers and coolers for over 30 years.  I work very closely with our customers and our sales, service, and operations teams to formulate solutions that reduce, utility costs, extend equipment life and enhance service.

Q) What happens if proper water treatment protocols are not followed?

  • Improper or poor water treatment can result in:
  • Increased water, sewer, electric and gas consumption/costs.
  • Expensive repairs.
  • Decreased equipment life.
  • System failure.  Equipment can go offline reducing or eliminating critical services such as air conditioning or heating, dramatically effecting productivity.

Q) How does your process work?

I am typically brought in to perform a comprehensive analysis of the existing water treatment program, equipment and water samples and then formulate solutions based on my findings.  I then work closely with our customer’s operations and engineering teams to implement these solutions and provide comprehensive training.

Q) What if everything is in order and no additional adjustments are necessary?

Great question!  This certainly does happen from time to time.  When this is the case, we affirm that everything is ship/shape!  Integrity and trust are very important in our business and we know that we will enjoy continued success and growth by offering our customers proper solutions and sound advice.  We know there will be other opportunities to partner with a potential customer and that they will think of State Chemical when additional needs arise.  We are happy to provide peace of mind.
