Electricity Sourcing Program

On June 1st, 2009, the electricity market in northern Ohio changed dramatically as a result of an electric auction that was conducted in May 2009. Your organization is now able to shop for the company that you purchase electricity from – just as you can shop for natural gas or phone service. Sourcing Office is pleased to announce that it has selected FirstEnergy Solutions as its electricity generation provider for the Sourcing Office Electricity Program.

The Sourcing Office Electricity Purchasing Program was created with the input of one of Ohio’s most recognized energy attorneys, a leading energy consultant, and a group of 18 local governments, higher education institutions, and not-for-profit organizations. Sourcing Office formed an electricity steering committee with representatives of these organizations to lead the supplier selection process.

After a thorough review of the electricity supplier marketplace, the steering committee recommended FirstEnergy Solutions as Sourcing Office’s electricity supplier in northern Ohio. The steering committee considered the following criteria in making its recommendation:

• One-Stop Solution: Sourcing Office and FirstEnergy Solutions have worked together to develop electricity purchasing programs to meet the needs of participants large and small.
• Power Generation: FirstEnergy Solutions is the only electricity supplier in the marketplace that owns and manages its own power generation.
• Pricing: FirstEnergy Solutions has consistently provided the most comprehensive and aggressive pricing in the market.
• Value-added Services: FirstEnergy Solutions agreed to provide Sourcing Office participants with a wide-range of services to enhance the value of the program.
• Buying Local: FirstEnergy Solutions is an Akron-based company that employs thousands of Ohioans directly and through its Toledo Edison, CEI, Ohio Edison sister companies.

Sourcing Office currently has approximately 500,000,000 kWh being purchased through the electricity program annually.
